The Quilotoa Crater is about a 3-4 hour drive from Quito and well worth the trip. On sunny days the turquoise waters offer stunning photo opportunities and on cooler wetter days the hike around the rim offers a rewarding challenge.
This multi-day trekking adventure begins at the crater and descends down towards Isinlivi. We will use old indigenous walking trails as well as roads to navigate the beautiful 25km distance between Quilotoa and Isinlivi. The adventure lasts about 3 days, of which we will spend 2 nights staying at local hostals along the route. This trip is rated as moderate-strenous for activity level. The altitude will begin above 3,500m (12,000ft) and descend towards Isinlivi. Doing the route in a descending direction makes the trip a little more friendly for adventurers not accustomed to the thin air. The weather in the region can change quickly. This region produces large amounts of rainfall yearly and guests should have adequate rain gear. There is light scrambling across peaks and down into valleys but should not be an issue for most active people. Guests will carry a day pack which typically weighs around 3kg or 10lbs for this trip. Total hiking distance is about 15 miles (25km) and we will average around 7 miles per day.
Prices listed are per person for a single adventurer. Groups of 2 or more are automatically discounted appropriately when added to the cart.
